Director's Note

Into The Woods is one of those musicals that reaches you when you most need it. Last year I experienced the loss of my grandfather and one of the first songs I wanted to sing was “No One Is Alone.” “No One Is Alone” was also the last song I sang with my childhood best friend before he moved to a different country. There is no point in my life that song has not spoken to me and those around me. It is easy to feel alone in a world seemingly ignoring your needs and expelling the rights of those around you. I urge you to join us at the theatre and feel you are not alone here. For almost 3 hours you are here, breathing together, feeling together, sharing a unique experience in this moment. You are not alone, you are loved and appreciated by someone even if that someone is not here at this moment. You will find the love you deserve, much like the characters in this play; we can’t control when the happy ending hits us. In the pursuit of the wrong happy ending, we may lose the one we were meant to have all along. Everyone strays from the path, loses their vision, and makes a terrible mistake. That is what makes us beautiful, mortal, and human. What matters is the choices you make with what you have been given or what you have disrupted. Furthermore, ensuring our mistakes are not our children's. When thinking of my Directorial vision for this production the idea is that children are listening to what we say, what our politicians are saying and doing. We are doing a disservice to the future children by ignoring the hatred spewed by those in power. A hatred that hurts the dreams and wishes of children today and tomorrow. Through stories we share cautions and happy endings with those who come after us. I encourage you to think about your story and the things your children will learn from you and about how you will shape how they see the world. Are you showing them the full picture? Are you encouraging them to think about others and care for others? Are you teaching them acceptance? Are you opening their minds to the world or shutting the door before they know it can open?

Take care of each other, and listen to one another. Join us in The Woods
